Stinney: An American Execution

Stinney: An American Execution, by composer Frances Pollock and librettist Tia Price, received its world premiere with Opera Grand Rapids in February 2022. Just months later, GLOW Lyric Theatre brought the work home to South Carolina for its Southeastern premiere, staging the opera in the state where George Stinney Jr.’s true story unfolded, and centering its themes of racial injustice, memory, and restorative truth-telling.

GLOW’s production, in which Shanelle portrayed Alma Stinney, went on to win The American Prize in Opera Performance in 2023.
